Ever since its formation, Bodoland Territorial Council has become a role model for development, enabling growth and prosperity for all residents.
In just 16 years it has made numerous positive changes to the demography and helped in the betterment of living condition of the people. This engine of development received the much needed thrust when Modi government came to power.
While this overall development with aid of Centre allowed the council to successfully enable development of neglected area, the opposition seethes in pain to see the positive work done by Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) led by Hagrama Mohilary. Mohilary has shown rapid changes in the region can take place if the intent is Nobel.
First and foremost, the BPF has ensured people equal rights, privilege and justice. In partnership with the NDA the area has been provided with speedy development, infrastructure projects and economic growth that has happened at an unprecedented pace.
For example in 2019, the BJP led NDA government escalated development in the region with manifold measures including a super-fast express train, Aronai Express, passing through the BTC ensures better connectivity. A new Museum cum Language and Cultural Study Centre at Kokrajhar in order to promote and preserve the heritage of the Bodo community apart from upgrading institutes to deemed universities and proposing Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital, Dental College, Cancer Care Unit and Child Care Unit to ensure proper access to healthcare.
As any regions development can be assessed by the access people have, Owing to the effective work of BTC today almost 1000 RCC bridges are constructed and maintained by the PWD department in the Bodoland territory.
Close to 70% of the total population owe their livelihood from agriculture. Modern and efficient means of agriculture is a necessity to ensure sustainable growth of agriculture. Also, special attention is given to the people associated with this sector for their socio-economic upliftment.
Projects such as Rajendrapur Flow Irrigation Scheme and Khowra Flow Irrigation Scheme ensure water supply to almost 20 villages of BTC. Grant in-aids providing the economically backward with livestock to encourage upliftment.
During 2018-19 total 135 habitations have been covered by spot source and piped water supply schemes.
Under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 3 lakh LPG connections are provided to the under-privileged and to promote employment 150 ‘Amar Dukan’ has been opened in the area with a government grant to the people joining the scheme. Rice at Rs. 3 and 5 per kg to the people under NFSA and AAY category.
And these are just a few of the achievements of BPF. Many milestones have been achieved in sectors of handloom promotion, sports, and youth welfare. Reformation work has been done in panchayat and rural welfare.
Sericulture or silk production is an important source of income of the Bodo people. Aided by the BTC, the sector has grown exponentially over the period of time. The development schemes like Grainage hall and Rearing house for the silkworm are implemented by the BTC.
There is also a proposed silk knitting unit in the offing. For special needs people and underprivileged widows, social department has taken many measures for their upliftment. Employment department trains students and equips them in skill training, the significant fund is dedicated to fisheries apart from helping small self-employed people.
Even after so much development in the past several years by the Hagrama Led Govt the Opposition Leader (UPPL Chief) Pramod Boro has been continuously peddling lies of corruption, no development in BTC.
Boro was the one who cited politics when Hagrama wanted to help the poor of the region amid the COVID19 crisis and stopped him from distributing essentials to the needy.
Pramod Boro has been following the pattern of opposition parties that stood against the Modi Govt in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and claimed that Modi-led govt hasn’t done any work for the country.
